Notes on Development Discussion with Pat Keogh

Last night there was a meeting with Pat Keogh, Cllr Kieran O'Hanlon and the Residents Committee.

Pat bought 3 sets of plans with him outlining the proposed extension of Dromroe.  I will be putting these plans up on the blog later.

There were questions regarding the possible deterioration of the estate with regards to an influx of Affordable Housing, Regeneration Housing and the bylaws thereof.  Although there are laws stating that the Council may request that 20% of the proposed housing to be Affordable Housing, this is something that would arrive on the desk of Cllr Kieran O'Hanlon, whom has given assurances that should this happen it will be brought to the table to be discussed.  No such decision at this stage has been made or even proposed.

The timeline of the development is as yet unclear.  Pat Keogh mentioned that it would be (if passed) commencing when the market picked up and there were sufficient funds available to begin, or indeed if the demand was apparent.

The question was asked about access to the canal bank and the effect it would have on the estate.  We were assured that there would be a 2.1m fence (metal) which would separate any potential passer by from the estate per se.

It was put to Pat Keogh, that in the interim period, the 'wasteland' should be cleared up and possibly the boundary moved back, fenced properly and made less of an eyesore until development was approved and undertaken.  Given the possible timeline of 5 - 10 years, it did not seem an unreasonable request.  Pat agreed, but stated that this too would have to come at a time when funds were available.  Kieran O'Hanlon said he would raise the issue further with the Council to see if there was something that could be done there.

It was further decided that opinions would be welcomed on the proposed 'play area', to be built on the green where numbers 41 onwards commence.  This is only apparently an 'idea' at this stage; yet was met with resistance from the members of the committee present last evening.

Finally it was agreed that a meeting try to be arranged for Monday 30th January at 8pm open to all residents, to come and view the plans up close and put their concerns to the committee.  On the outcome of this meeting, a further meeting would be arranged where the most prominent and urgent concerns would be able to be addressed to Pat Keogh directly.

If possible please indicate your intentions and interest for the meeting on Monday, through email to drcrhebogue@gmail.com

  1. I want kieran o'hanlon to be upfront with all the residents and let us know what percentage of the housing in dromroe is already allocated to social, affordable and council housing. It appears the only buyers on the market are the council and the council are buying more than their fair share of houses in this estate.

It needs to stop now. Have respect for those of us who go to work everyday and can't afford a family holiday. While our neighbours who pay 30 e a week to the council can drive newer cars, be with their children 24/7 and jet off on foreign holidays.

  4. No 98 bought by the council. New wall built. State of the art shed with a pathway laid to it. Bathroom ripped out while us taxpayers pay for this ? And go to work to pay for our mortgages to live in an estate where people who never worked a day in their lifes can get everything for free ?

Please have kieran o'hanlan do his job and confirm the percentage of social and affordable housing in this area Before it turns into an absolute ghetto.
